Amy

Amy met Rylee’s team. Two of them were married, and their wives were very friendly and beautiful. Alexis was Caylan’s wife and a nurse. She worked in Pediatrics. And judging by the way her husband kept touching her, she was also pregnant.

The other married couple were Braden and Ella. They had two children with them. The little girl was the center of attention. Her smiles and giggles had everyone sighing with happiness. If she caught it right, Chase, the man who'd followed her tonight, was the girl's uncle. He seemed taken by his niece, and she clearly adored him. The baby boy, who slept peacefully in his mother’s arms, was only a few weeks old. He was content to stay put, and no one dared to wake him. She guessed they had past experience with handling a fussy baby.

The group of people stood together and talked. They joked, and she could see the friendship ran deep within them, even though Rylee and Mike were actually their bosses. She liked that.

Bella knew all the women and seemed to have met them some time ago. As soon as she introduced Amy, they welcomed her into their group, and made plans to meet for lunch in a few days. She could see Rylee scowl their way when they agreed to a time. But she couldn’t read if the expression was because she was friends with the women so soon, or because of the threat which loomed over her. Either way, she’d decided not to worry about the danger when she was among friends and having a good time.

“So, you going to tell us what’s going on with you and Master Gloomy over there?” Alexis asked and Amy almost choked on her drink. She coughed a few times.

“Master Gloomy?” She laughed and Ella giggled beside her.

“What? I had to name him somehow. He’s always scowling and so serious. Anyway, don’t distract me. I want the details. So, spill it.”

Amy’s eyes darted to Rylee, who was talking to Mike about something serious because he was, in fact, scowling and looking very gloomy as Alexis called him.

“There is nothing going on between us.” She kind of sighed the words, and the others snorted at her in return. When she looked back at them, she could see that they hadn’t believed a word she’d just said.

“You are a bad liar.” Bella said with narrowed eyes. Her gaze darted behind Amy and came back with a smirk. “He is definitely not watching you with innocent eyes.”

She didn’t dare turn around and look again. “I am not lying.”

“What aren’t you lying about?” She jumped at the voice behind her. Rylee stepped toward them, and his men moved around to their women. They looked to be so in love, it was hard to watch sometimes.

“Nothing,” she lied.

He grinned. “Now, I know you’re lying.”

She rolled her eyes. Had everyone gone mad overnight?

Alexis nudged her toward Rylee, and she bumped into him. “You two should dance.”

His hands caught her. She righted herself and was about to move away, when he looked down.
